International Credit Union Day is on October 18^th this year and we’ll be celebrating its 70^th anniversary!

Since 1948, credit unions around the world have celebrated the credit union movement on the 3^rd Thursday of October. It’s the perfect day to highlight credit union achievements, to spread awareness about the great things credit unions are doing, and to thank our members for their years of commitment.

This year’s theme is “Find your Platinum Lining in Credit Unions” and we hope all of our members have found theirs with MCU!

Member who stop by a branch on October 18^th will have the chance to win a $150 gift card prize pack and can enjoy some delicious treats with our team. We encourage you to share your credit union stories on social media using #ICUDay.

The MCU team is thrilled to be supporting the Down Syndrome Association of Hamilton (DSAH) again this year by sponsoring The WALK on Sunday, September 30^th.

Formed in 1982, DSAH provides support to local families, works to educate the community, and encourages community programs that help enrich the lives of those living with Down syndrome. DSAH hosts The WALK annually in support of the GO21 national awareness campaign hosted by the Canadian Down Syndrome Society. The event aims to increase awareness, understanding, and acceptance of Down syndrome within the community.

The WALK is taking place at Bayfront Park from 8:30am to 12:00pm. In addition to supporting a great cause, there will be raffles, live music, and fun activities for kids! The MCU team will be on-site and we encourage you to join us for this fun-filled day by registering a team, volunteering to help, or donating.

This is a reminder to Credit Union Mastercard cardholders that the relationship between MCU and CUETS Financial, our Mastercard provider, ended on July 31^st, 2018. This change will be seamless for most CUETS Financial credit card cardholders and no action is required as you can continue to use existing credit cards the same way you do now.

Important Change to Note:

MCU no longer offers CUETS Financial cards or is able to provide support in our branches for CUETS Financial credit cards. To continue managing your account online, you can access your account online using your current login credentials for CUETS Financial Online Banking. If you aren’t currently enrolled, you can visit cucardsonline.com and click the “New User/Enrol Now” link. You can also contact CUETS Financial toll-free at 1-800-561-7849.

All cardholders should have already been contacted by CUETS Financial in advance of this change. Be sure to bookmark or add the following useful links to your favorites so you can access this information when you need it:

www.choicerewards.ca – For information about card features and benefits and to make redemptions using CHOICE REWARDS or Platinum Class points.

www.cucardsonline.com – Secure access to online card services, including recent transactions and monthly statements.

Our annual Canada Day festivities will be held on June 28th and June 29th this year where our team will be working the grill over lunch in support of non-profit organizations in each of our communities. Celebrating the LGBTQ2SIA community, Pride Hamilton is run completely by volunteers and the event attracts thousands of Hamiltonians and people from surrounding communities each year. The day will consist of musical performances, various local and national vendors, food, a beer garden, and activities for the whole family.

We’re helping support youth in need this year by supporting the Ontario Credit Union Foundation’s CU Succeed Bursary program!

Each year, 30% of youth in Ontario choose not to pursue higher education because of financial barriers and OCUF is working to change that. To date, the CU Succeed Bursary program has provided $111,000 to help students pursue their dreams of post-secondary education.

The 2018 goal is to raise $75,000 and MCU will be supporting the campaign by hosting various fundraising activities throughout the month of May and by accepting donations to the fund online. Members can donate to the fund by visiting our team page here. Tax receipts will be provided.

We will also be holding an in-branch raffle from May 7th to May 18th with all proceeds being donated to the bursary program. Visit a branch to enter for a chance to score a great prize!
